For the fifth year in a row, on Saturday, October 24, Sunrise Senior Living team members supported the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. This year, team members raised more than $550,000, all of which will help advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Rita Altman, Sunrise Senior Living’s Vice President of Memory Care & Programming Services and an expert on memory loss, spoke at the annual event. She gave thanks to the Alzheimer’s Association for working tirelessly to advance research, provide caregiving resources, and support and enhance care for those living with the disease. “As we care for those with memory loss in our own Sunrise communities, we understand the impact of this disease on those who have Alzheimer’s, their families and caregivers,” she said in front of a crowd of more than 3,500 walkers.
The walk is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds to support research for Alzheimer’s and Sunrise team members, residents and their families participated to support the estimated 5.4 million Americans currently living with Alzheimer’s and the more than 15.5 million caregivers currently serving them. Nationally, there were more than 490,000 participants and the organization raised more than $74 million.
This year, Sunrise Senior Living again participated as a Platinum National Team and is proud to be one of the leading companies in terms of donations. (This year, Sunrise Senior Living again participated as a Platinum National Team and Sunrise communities across the U.S. led fundraising activities for several moths to reach our half-million dollar donation goal.) Since the partnership began, Sunrise teams have contributed more than $2.5 million dollars to the cause. As an organization, the belief is both professional and exceedingly personal, as described in this video:
This year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s is complete, but fundraising is still open, and all donations made through the end of the year will benefit the 2015 walk.
