After four years in the burgundy and gold Washington uniform, former franchise quarterback Robert Griffin III has just dropped his most obvious hint yet that his time in the nation’s capital is over.
RGIII came and packed up his things from the team’s facility on Monday, leaving only a note bearing a Mother Theresa quote hanging from his locker’s shelf, per the MMQB’s Robert Klemko.
People are often unreasonable, irrational, & self-centered
FORGIVE THEM ANYWAY.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
BE KIND ANYWAY.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends, and some genuine enemies
If you are honest & sincere, people may deceive you
BE HONEST & SINCERE ANYWAY.
What you spend years creating others could destroy overnight
The good you do today, will often be forgotten
DO GOOD ANYWAY.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough
GIVE YOUR BEST ANYWAY.
In the final analysis, its between you and God.
IT WAS NEVER BETWEEN YOU AND THEM ANYWAY.
Ever since Griffin lost his starting spot last August, it’s been largely assumed that his stay with Washington was nearing its end. After an electric first leg to his NFL career that saw him win the 2012 Offensive Player of the Year award, a combination of on-field injuries and off-field managerial missteps has left Griffin’s time with Washington riddled with what-ifs, regrets and constant looks into the rearview mirror.
The organization, for better or worse, has elected to bypass Griffin and go with Kirk Cousins as its headlining act. So it’d be more than understandable if RGIII skips town this offseason, hoping to earn a fresh start away from both the personal and political controversy that comes with being a member of Washington’s team, aiming to nab spot on a squad where his future greatness, not that of his past, will be the focal point.
