What's not to like about brunch? It's a combination of breakfast foods and lunch dishes that's usually enjoyed in a relaxing, comfortable environment. Check out a roundup of our favorites you can make at home:

Whole-Grain Waffles
This classic dish is always a crowd-pleaser, but Food Network offers a healthier recipe!


  • 1 1/4-ounce package active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 3 Tbsp. peanut oil
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 cups whole-wheat pastry flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1/8 baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. fine salt
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • Maple syrup

First, pour your warm water in a large mixing bowl. Then, sprinkle yeast over it and let sit until it starts to foam – this should take about five minutes. Add buttermilk, oil, sugar and flour and whisk until mixture reaches a smooth consistency. Seal bowl with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator to sit overnight.

Right before brunch begins, heat up your waffle iron. Remove the batter from the refrigerator and whisk in the oats, egg whites, baking soda and salt until smooth.

Prepare your waffle iron with a light coating of non-stick cooking spray. Then, add a 1/3 cup of batter to each waffle section, close the iron and let cook for five to seven minutes. Repeat with the remainder of the batter until all waffles are cooked. Serve this dish with warm maple syrup!

Warm Baked Apples with Dried Cherries, Raisin and Blueberries
For a sweet brunch treat, try this recipe from MyPlate, an initiative that promotes healthy eating choices among families.


  • 6 Golden Delicious or Granny Smith apples
  • 3 Tbsp. frozen orange juice concentrate
  • 1 cup mixed dried cherries, blueberries and raisins
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 6 tsp. honey
  • 2 Tbsp. safflower or canola oil


Prepare six cupcake molds with oil and heat your oven to 300 degrees.

Remove the stem and core from the top of each apple using a melon ball utensil or spoon. Poke a few holes in the apple to create vents, and then place them in the prepared cupcake molds.

Pour 1/2 teaspoon of orange juice concentrate into each apple, and then top evenly with dried fruits and brown sugar. Finish them off by drizzling with a generous amount of honey.

Bake your apples until soft – this should take about 30 minutes. It's recommended to enjoy this dish warm, so don't wait too long to indulge!

Crustless Smoked Turkey and Spinach Quiche
Every brunch needs a savory dish, so try this delicious recipe courtesy of Cooking Light magazine. Each serving is only 152 calories!


  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • 3/4 cup cubed smoked turkey
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/8 tsp. black pepper
  • 3/4 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup fresh baby spinach leaves
  • 1 cup fat-free cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup evaporated fat-free milk
  • 1/4 cup shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder


First, heat your oven to 350 degrees and prepare a 9-inch pie plate with non-stick cooking spray.

Then, coat a large skillet with cooking spray and place over medium-high heat. Place turkey, onion and pepper in the pan, sautéing for about four minutes.

Add 1/4 cup Swiss cheese layer to the bottom of the pie plate, topping with the cooked turkey mixture. Set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk remaining Swiss cheese, spinach, cottage cheese, milk, cheddar cheese, eggs and egg whites together until well combined.

In a small bowl, mix flour and baking powder. Then, gradually add dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until fully blended. Pour egg mixture over turkey mixture and bake for 45 minutes. Remove from oven, let cool completely and enjoy!

Pineapple Coffee Cake
No meal is complete without dessert, even at brunch! Offer your guests a taste of this recipe from Eating Well magazine for the perfect treat.


  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • 1 cup whole-wheat pastry flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup and 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup non-fat plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups canned pineapple chunks – dried and chopped
  • 1/4 cup pecans – chopped


First, heat your oven to 350 and prepare an 8-inch square baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.

In a medium bowl, whisk flours, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

In a large bowl, whisk egg, yogurt, oil and vanilla until it reaches a smooth consistency. Then, gradually add dry ingredients and fold with a spatula until just combined. Add chopped pineapple and gently fold.

In a small bowl, combine pecans and remaining sugar.

Pour batter into your prepared pan and sprinkling with sugared pecan mixture. Place in the oven and bake until done – this should take about 55 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes. Cut into squares and serve to your guests with a whipped cream topping!
