From Chris Winkle, CEO

More than 35 years ago, Paul Klaassen co-founded Sunrise upon the simple yet bold mission that continues to drive us today—to champion quality of life for all seniors. That first community in 1981 completely revolutionized senior living in the United States by providing residents with high-quality, person-centered care in a warm, loving home.

I am thrilled to share that Paul has been inducted into the American Seniors Housing Association’s Senior Living Hall of Fame!

This honor is a recognition of the impact Paul made not only on Sunrise, but on all seniors and their families, in combatting ageism and preserving dignity as people age. The Klaassens began Sunrise as an alternative to the sterile, hospital-like nursing homes that dominated senior care at the time. By creating a nurturing community rooted in the elder care environments of the Netherlands, they spearheaded an entire industry dedicated to bringing meaningful days to seniors.

I know that Paul, a trailblazer who led our organization for more than 25 years, is immensely proud of how we carry on this legacy today. Our recognition from J.D. Power as “Highest in Customer Satisfaction among Senior Living Communities” is a testament to our unmatched attention to providing the very best in personalized care to our beloved residents. We continue to be on the cutting edge of the senior living industry, whether through innovations such as Sunrise CareConnect and the Sunrise Advantage Plan, or new communities that bring our best-in-class service to even more families.

Thank you to our dedicated team members, and congratulations to Paul!
